چکیده

Scalability becomes the basic need for distributed systems. With the increase of users, load on application servers also keep increasing. This requires a critical action to balance the load on servers. Load balancing is the concept of balancing load on servers using various load balancing techniques. In this paper we discuss various load-balancing techniques that are currently available. We discuss inherent characteristics, operational process, advantages and disadvantages of various static load-balancing techniques and dynamic load-balancing techniques. Also we made a comparative study on various parameters of the load-balancing techniques.

A Comparative Study of Different Load Balancing Techniques for Heterogeneous Nodes

Conventional load balancing schemes are efficient at increasing the utilization of CPU, memory, and disk I/O resources in a Distributed environment. Most of the existing load-balancing schemes ignore network proximity and heterogeneity of nodes. Load balancing becomes more challenging as load variation is very large and the load on each server may change dramatically over time, by the time when...

A Truthful Mechanism for Fair Load Balancing in Distributed Systems

In this paper we consider the problem of designing load balancing protocols in distributed systems where the participants (e.g. computers, users) are capable of manipulating the load allocation algorithm in their own interest. Using techniques from mechanism design theory we design a mechanism for fair load balancing in heterogeneous distributed systems. We prove that our mechanism is truthful ...

A Study on the Application of Existing Load Balancing Algorithms for Large, Dynamic, Heterogeneous Distributed Systems

In a large distributed computing environment, like Grid, tasks can be submitted at any host and the random arrival of tasks in such an environment can cause some hosts to be heavily loaded while others are idle or lightly loaded. So, in such environment, load imbalance can potentially be reduced by appropriate transfers of tasks from heavily loaded computers (also known as ‘senders’) to idle or...

Study of Techniques for Load Balancing : Mobile Agents

Distributed system may be considered as a collection of resources shared by different users. Distributed systems provide methods for sharing and aggregation of resources. Resources may be storage systems, computer machines, hardware devices and other specialized devices. Load balancing is a technique which can be used to improve the performance of distributed system by allowing load migration f...
